Inspired by Inca motifs and nature, this Wave pendant is handcrafted by a young and talented master silversmith from Peru, with a speciality for filigree jewelry.
Made from 925 sterling silver, in both natural silver and oxidized silver, a single wire, itself created by hand from several strands of silver, is twisted and turned with great dexterity to create a unique and intricate abstract design based on an ocean wave.
Oxidized jewellery gives another dimension to silver, darkening it and helping to create depth and contrast within a design, and the effect is best seen in filigree jewelery
Filigree was introduced to the Americas by the conquering Spaniards, who in turn inherited the technique from the influx of Arabs to Spain during the era of Al-Andalus.
The technique was widespread in the Middle East thanks to new ideas introduced via the Silk Road and became a specialisity amongst the Jewish community, to whom every other community would flock for intricate filigree work.
This 925 oxidised and natural silver Wave pendant has a three strand waxed cotton cord in blue tones that measures:
(Metric) 48cm
or
(Imperial) 19"
The wax cotton cord is made with three separate complementary colours and has a 925 silver lobster clasp.
The silver pendant measures:
(Metric): 5.5cm long x 5.2cm wide
or
(Imperial): the motif measures: 2.16" long x 2.04" wide.
Being an artisan made product, measurements may vary very slightly.
