Made from 925 sterling silver, a single wire, itself created by hand from several strands of silver, is twisted and turned with great dexterity to create a unique and intricate abstract design based on a delicate heart leaf.
Filigree was introduced to the Americas by the conquering Spaniards, who in turn inherited the technique from the influx of Arabs to Spain during the era of Al-Andalus.
The technique was widespread in the Middle East thanks to new ideas introduced via the Silk Road and became a specialisity amongst the Jewish community, to whom every other community would flock for intricate filigree work.
