Calfskin shoulder bag with blue, turquoise, black and khaki upcycled striped cotton
WHY WE LOVE IT
Each Anillas Shoulder Bag is handcrafted by an artisan from Andalusia.
Using cotton remnants from furniture manufacturers, the craftsman shreds the textile into strips, weaving them together on his 200 year old wooden loom, according to color to create a multicolored stripey fabric.
He combines this with calf leather to create an authentic handcrafted shoulder bag for women.
The technique used to create these bags is known as jarapa, and was revived in parts of Andalusia and Murica at the end of the 16th Century, after the final explusion of the Moors.
Experts in silk production and silk-weaving, once the Moors were forced to leave, their plantations became arid and so those left behind or newcomers to the area looked to using left-over fabric to create rugs and curtains, still using the weaving techniques bequeathed to them.
The remnants used to create these unique bags are reassembled on a 200 year old wooden loom. The pieces are blended to create original new, upcycled fabrics with stripes in different colors which are then combined with the best quality calf leather to create an original handbag.
Each shoulder bag is zipped on the outside and has a separate pocket on the inside of the bag, in a different style of woven material.
The striped bag is lined in thick cotton.
