The Lucía silver pendant necklace is a stunning original design by a young and talented master silversmith from Peru.
Handcrafted using the art of filigree and made from 925 serterling silver, in a combination of both oxidised silver and natural silver, a single wire, itself created by hand from several strands of silver, one single wire is twisted to create these unique and intricate geometric Inca patterns.
Oxidised jewellery especially suits filigree work, as the intricate patterns are highlighted with the use of natural silver against oxidized silver.
Filigree was introduced to the Americas by the conquering Spaniards, who in turn inherited the technique from the influx of Arabs to Spain during the period of Al Andalus.
The technique was widespread in the Middle East thanks to new ideas introduced via the Silk Road: Jewish communities in the Middle East became the go-to experts of filigree for every other community, and expert silversmiths were commissioned with the important marriage pieces worn by brides from every sector of society.
The Lucía silver pendant is handmade from 925 oxidised silver combined with natural silver filigree threads.
The filigree pendant has been hung on a cord of 3 mixed purple waxed cords with a 925 silver lobster clasp and measures:
(Metric): 48cm long
or
(Imperial): 18.89 long
The filigree motif measures:
(Metric): 5.2cm long x 4cm wide
or
