Each Anillas shoulder bag is handcrafted by an artisan from Andalusia; using up-cycled cotton remnants from furniture manufacturers, the artisan shreds the textile using the ancient technique of jarapa.
This was a technique that was adopted in the Alpujarras region of Andalusia and Murcia in the 16th Century, after the final explusion of the Moors from Spain. Muslim communities had specialised in growing and weaving silk, and when they were forced to leave, their silk plantations withered and died. But their weaving skills continued, but this time not with silk, but with left over scrap materials, and this is when the jarapa technique was adopted to create upcycled products from rugs to curtains.
In this instance, the craftsman re-assemble his shredded fabrics on his 200 year old wooden loom, blending the pieces to create unique striped fabrics which he then combines with the best quality calf leather to create a beautiful bag, this time a red handbag that is worn on the shoulder.
Each bag is zipped on the outside and has a separate pocket, in a differing woven material, on the inside.
The bag is lined in thick cotton.
The bag measures:
(Metric) 39cm long x 37cm high x 10cm deep
or
(Imperial) 15.35" long x 14.56" high x 3.93" deep
Being a handmade product, measurements may vary very slightly.
